Mi cultura no es la mejor, te extiendo mi amor. De donde yo soy, no importa el día de hoy. Somos iguales, somos humanos. Sigame y dame tu manos.
When I started this blog, I thought it was a good idea to start with a few things about me. Lacking creativity I subsumed my existence into 10 bullet points. Later in my PC experience I wrote a post about my current status. Interested in the transformation of my self identification, I want to continue these ‘about me’ posts. This reflection and intrigue all began with an identity map experience we did earlier in PST. … Read More
My 3 week site exploration has now come to an end. As I find myself back at the training center, I reminisce about my weeks in Ancash. I come back to Lima feeling grateful and motivated to return back to my service. Living in the mountains once again provided a homecoming I would not have traded for any other site. My host family, colegio, and PCV Stephany all played a part in a super special… Read More
I am going to try something new. In my free time I often read books. So in order to praise the authors, talk about interesting books, and share one of my passions, I want to start “El Lunes Son Para Libros”. Maybe it will be a book review, maybe my favorite quotes, or maybe just some photos. I don’t know yet, but it’s my damn blog and I do what I want. So… Read More
The final week of site exploration began with presentations and lunch at the Mayor’s office. Like most of my meetings so far, it was shared with Stephany. Before she presented her final results from her two years of service, I was given the opportunity to introduce myself. I used the opportunity to talk about where I come from, my family, my education, my hobbies and an interesting fact. I made sure to… Read More
The second half of week 2 began with eating cuy or guinea pig. I was invited to a fair well lunch for the current volunteer Stefany at a house just around the corner from the school. When the bell rang for lunch, we walked over with the school psychologist Jose. The first plate was soup with Gina the Gallina. This was the name given to the hen when it was gifted to Stefany some time ago…. Read More
Site exploration has been going relatively smoothly. I feel super lucky for a couple reasons. The first is that site exploration is now 3 weeks long. In the past, site exploration lasted only a couple days. With 3 weeks, I can actually get a feel for what my community is like. How it ticks, what schedules it follows, and who participates in it. The second reason I am grateful is because I… Read More
The time has finally arrived. I’m in my new home. But it’s still not permanent. I’m only here for 2 weeks. My job is to have fun, meet people, and to be with my host family. I’ve got a workbook to complete but besides that, I am responsible for exploring. Since I’m a brain-fried, overwhelmed mess, I’ll just let the photos do the talking this time.
